Working with interior design is a lot like relationship counselling, at least that is how it can feel for those that work with it, but now a ground breaking new program initiated by Skanska Sweden looks to be simplifying the process. The brainchild of the Interior design team themselves, the program required the digitalisation of their traditional product management, sales and ordering processes. The objective behind this transformation was to make the interior design selection process more flexible and enjoyable for the customers while making the entire process more effective.
The Inredningsväljaren as the program is known (meaning Interior Design Selector in Swedish), presented a number of unique challenges for the Globalmouth team to overcome. Not simply an online store, the Inredningsväljaren must take into account the myriad of design constraints that may apply when decorating a home: appliances that may not be selected together, extra costs for installing stone benchtops and different rooms used in various combinations to make the unique apartment types sold, to name just a few. Managing all of these limiting functions was a key requirement of the program solution which also needed to be attractive and enjoyable to use for both the designers and the end customers.
The solution was to base the Inredningsväljaren on WordPress to make use of the huge number of available themes and plugins and allow future development flexibility. The WordPress framework was sufficiently adaptable to allow the Globalmouth team to build a complex CMS giving the interior design team control over the product management and ordering functions while still delivering a frontend platform that is attractive and easy to use for the customers, allowing them to view and order all of the available interior design features for their homes.
